Roof Mounting System
New Zealand moves to reduce red tape for rooftop solar as it seeks to accelerate the rollout of rooftop PV.
The new regulatory changes will cut approval processing times for residential and small commercial systems by up to 60%, according to the country’s Energy Ministry. Officials estimate the streamlined rules will add an extra 1.2 GW of rooftop solar capacity by 2030, helping the nation hit its 100% renewable electricity target.
Local solar installers have welcomed the move, saying lengthy permit processes have been one of the top bottlenecks slowing adoption for years. Many industry groups are already calling for further incentives — including upfront rebates for low-income households — to complement the red tape cuts and make rooftop solar accessible to more homeowners.
